Dr. Ramesh Chandra Sahoo is one of the senior teaching faculty members at Kasturba Medical College Hospital (KMC). He enjoys association with both the KMC centres (Attavar and Ambedkar Circle) in Mangalore city. He has been imparting training in Pulmonary Medicine at the aforementioned institutes since 1985, the year he joined Manipal University.
Dr. Sahoo has studied his MD in Pulmonary Medicine from one of the most prominent institutes for chest studies- Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI), Delhi. Since then, he adopted the medical teaching profession and has been a persistent source of immense guidance to post graduate and doctorate students, for completion of their thesis work. His list of publications in national and international journals taken together is so vast, that it has already exceeded 70 in number. Moreover, he has delivered almost 40 guest lectures in national and regional conferences, till date. Dr. Sahoo has also played the role of Principal Investigator in which he has presided over, Roflumilast and Indacaterol global clinical trials, conducted at KMC. He has also featured in several radio talk shows, that have thrown light on the various aspects of Asthma and Allergy.
Dr. Sahoo has a significant list of achievements which are mentioned as follows. He may be regarded as one of the first few doctors in the country to make use of an Exhaled Nitric oxide (eNO) test in the diagnosis and treatment of Asthma and utilizing EOTAXIN-1 & TARC biomarkers for diagnosis of Asthma and Allergy. Besides this, he is one of prelimanary doctors to undertake Asthma Pharmacogenomic studies in India. Furthermore, he is first from the state of Karnataka to deliver the prestigious NCCP Oration, way back in 2006.
